Red’s Restaurant Review: Home of the Smoked Meatloaf

There’s a small little restaurant in Haysville I was told about by a reader called Red’s Restaurant.

Red’s Restuarant is located at 1417 E Grand Ave. They are open Monday – Friday 6:00 am – 2:00 pm and on Saturday from 6:00 am – 1:00 pm. Red’s describes themselves as a family owned restaurant with home cooked meals, daily specials and great atmosphere. Their menu has a large assortment of breakfast items. I took pictures of the menu and included it at the bottom of this blog.

The building is very small; it’s right near Grand Ave and Broadway. Don’t drive too fast or you will miss this place.

On my stop, I went there for one thing, the smoked meatloaf. I don’t know of many places if any that have smoked meatloaf so it only made sense that I had to try it out. I’m a huge fan of meatloaf; a personal owner of the “As Seen on TV Product” the perfect meatloaf and have had meatloaf at so many different restaurants around town.

When I was at Red’s, I asked about the smoked meatloaf and was told they only had one left. Score! The Smoked Meatloaf comes with green beans, potatoes, a salad and texas toast; all for $8.64 which includes tax.

The side salad it came with is exactly what you’d get at most small little mom and pop diners you see. Nothing overly special to it, just our basic salad with dressing.

The real meal was about to come shortly and had the smokey barbecue aroma to it. I immediately dug in and you could tell it was smoked. The taste of the meatloaf was very good although it was a bit dry and needed ketchup at times to add some moisture to it. It’s not as salty as one would expect from most meatloafs.

Overall I liked the meatloaf and glad I traveled to Haysville to give it a try. It’s not the most mouth watering meal I’ve had and the best meatloaf around but it’s unique and still good enough to try.

The place is small inside and has the true mom and pop shop feel you’d expect in a small town like Haysville. The seating is small but that’s all besides the point. The service was fantastic. My waitress was friendly and interacted with all the customers inside.

Lots of home cooked meals on the menu, lots of breakfast items, something I may have to try in the future if I’m ever in the area.

So folks, that’s Red’s Restaurant; Home of the Smoked Meatloaf.

  1. Just recently discovered this small cozy place to eat. I have ordered a ham and cheese omelet with onions and now to include mushrooms. I am hooked on this cooked with nice yellow soft scrambled egg lots of melted cheddar cheese. I’ve never been to fond of omelets because they are usually cooked with a brown overdone texture on the outside. The place is very small but the food is tops. Very friendly and the cost is cheap.
