For the next part in our Q&A Series, we head over to the west side of Wichita regarding a new center that has opened up recently.
The name of the center is Breastfeeding Center of Wichita. It was opened up by one of my very good friends who has also been a supporter and fellow diner of this blog countless of times.
Without further ado, I would like to introduce you all to Megan Bayer, the owner of Breastfeeding Center of Wichita:

Megan Bayer with Breastfeeding Center of Wichita |
Eddy: Megan, welcome to the Wichita By E.B. Q&A Series. To kick things off, please tell the readers a little bit about yourself.
Megan Bayer: My name is Megan Bayer and I am a registered nurse and lactation consultant, I have been a RN for 12 years and an IBCLC for 8 years. I have spent much of my career in hospital based nursing working/studying Human Lactation. I teach at the WSU School of Nursing facilitating clinical experiences for maternal child nursing students in addition to owning and operating the Breastfeeding Center. I am a proud wife and we have two beautiful daughters.
Eddy: You’ve recently opened up a new business in Wichita that many parents in Wichita may want to know about. Isn’t that right?
Megan: In January I opened the Breastfeeding Center of Wichita. The Breastfeeding Center of Wichita is the premier resource for Wichita and the surrounding area, with personal quality breastfeeding support and assistance. I provide evidence based nursing care for the nursing mother. I am proud to have my own space and am excited about the autonomy and consistency I can provide to my families! This has been a long time goal and dream!
If people are interested in touring our new location at Kellogg and Ridge, the Breastfeeding Center of Wichita along with 6-8 other unique businesses in the same office park are having an Open House on Sunday, March 13th from 2pm-6pm. Friends and past client can see the Breastfeeding Center, have some finger foods, and also tour other unique business within the same office park. It has been fun to meet my neighbors and plan an event collectively, many of us are female entrepreneurs!
Eddy: That would be a great time of day for people! Stop by, visit the clinic and be home just in time for Selection Sunday. So what got you started into this? At what point did you decide you want to start your own business?
Megan: I am not exactly sure how I ended up as a lactation consultant, it is never what I envisioned doing during nursing school or even early in my nursing career. It has been a weird series of events that got me here, over time I have realized I have a natural strength in teaching. So 2 years ago, I returned back to school for a Masters in Nursing Education, and will graduate in December.
Related to owning my own business, this is just the first business I have pushed to this level. I have done home visits for the past 8 years running a small business from my home. While never largely profitable, it was a great way for me to practice safely while also saving “seed” money for this venture.
There was also this one time….a friend and I put together a business plan for a food and drink walking tour called, Taste Oldtown Walking Tours, the concept was a 2 hour walking tour of downtown Wichita, taste awesome food and sip on cocktails. We had a website and Jason Ridder made us a logo, still have some pens lying around. In the end we didn’t have the guts to make it a reality…the Crazy Kansas weather, lots of logistics. I know Wichita By E.B. would have been all over that!!
Eddy: During the upcoming warmer weather that certainly would have been fun. So how can the readers get a hold of you and your business?
Megan: My website has all my contact info and details about my services including my calendar and schedule. www.BCofICT.com or call or text at (316) 648-2768.
Eddy: Megan, what you’ve been able to do in your professional career has been nothing short of amazing. What advice do you have for others who are worried or scared to start their own business?
Megan: You have good reason to be scared, many new business fail. Offer a unique service. Be willing to work more than full time, and don’t go into debt…save the seed money. But I’m not sure anyone should be taking advice from me.
Eddy: You and your family are big Shocker fans and I’ve seen you at many games over the years including the Wichita State/KU game last year in Omaha. What are your thoughts on this being Ron Baker, Fred VanVleet and Evan Wessel’s last season?
Megan: Our oldest daughter just turned 4 and youngest is 2.5 and with my new position at WSU, I feel very nostalgic for this team. They have been a lot of fun to watch! Fred provides a rhythm that very few point guard can facilitate, he has been a pleasure and impressive player to watch. Evan gets my hustle points, you never watch him and think “that defense seemed a little lazy” even though he doesn’t always hit has much as we would like… his influence resonates within this team …Baker has this way of hitting 3-pointers that just makes you happy he is on your team. This team has been a delightful team to watch, fun era of Shocker Basketball to be a part of, however I feel excited for the new young group of men we get to watch grow and develop!
Eddy: Since this is first and foremost a restaurant food blog, I’m going to ask everybody. Top Three Favorite Restaurants in Wichita……….GO!
Megan: I love Wichita Food too much so… I added a theme: Comfort Foods
Breakfast – The Beacon- Which I have loved since college, sitting at corner booths smoking…Denver Omelet with Hashbrowns!
Lunch- Saigon (on N Broadway), I love the Pho its flavorful and the services is fast and consistent, I have been going there since college…seems so homey and family run, I love the way I feel when I eat there.
Dinner- On the Border (Eastside)- I worked there for 6 year collectively over a 10 year period and it is like “eating at mom’s house”… Upon reflection it might be better! Favorite Dish: Ranchiladas.
Eddy: Any additional comments you wish to add?
Megan: Thank you Eddy, I have known you since 1999 and I love ya to pieces!
Eddy: Much love to you as well to as well as your family. On behalf of Wichita By E.B., I’d like to thank Megan again for participating in our Q&A Series.
