Garden of Eatin’ Food Company Review

One of the newer restaurants in Wichita opened because of the success of their food truck.

Garden of Eatin’ opened a brick-and-mortar restaurant just recently and I must admit, I was quite surprised with it all. I’ll get into that more later though.

They are located at 612 E Douglas in the former Cow & Sow Deli space. Their hours are Monday-Wednesday 11am – 3pm and Thursday-Saturday 11am -7pm.

What Garden of Eatin’ serves is healthy food and comfort foods. When I first heard about Garden of Eatin’, I was a bit hesitant. If you are a regular of the blog, it’s easy to tell I’m not the healthiest eater in the world. Some people have this generalization that healthy foods don’t taste as good. I can see why but I won’t avoid a restaurant because they are healthy. I am always willing to try a new restaurant and give it an honest shot.

I talked some co-workers into trying the new Garden of Eatin’ restaurant after checking out their Facebook page. As an FYI, they also have a food truck. We actually stopped by their food truck first. It was really hot out that afternoon and were told they had a more expanded menu at the restaurant so we made an audible and went to the restaurant instead.

The restaurant is limited in seating. They did have quite a few carryout orders on our visit there. On top of that, they have a selection of take and go options like sandwiches and salads if you’re looking for a quick meal to eat later.

The menu that afternoon:

For our lunches we ordered the BLT on Wheat Berry Bread (minus the tomato), the Smoked Turkey with Cranberry Orange Chutney on Wheat Berry Bread, and two Reubens which were the special that day. (One with sauerkraut and one without sauerkraut – why someone would want to order a Reuben without sauerkraut is beyond me and we let him hear it!). For the sides we went with the Potato Salad at the recommendation of a couple diners who kept raving about it and the Quinoa Salad.

It took about 15 minutes for us to get our food and then we were off to the races.

We started off with the appetizers. I can see why some people may not like Quinoa Salad but I really liked it. I’ve come to really like recipes involving Quinoa. It was really clean, fresh and easy going down. But the real winner was the Potato Salad. Everyone was a big big big big fan of the Potato Salad. Honestly it really stuck out to us as possibly the best Potato Salad we’ve ever had. Not sure if it was sprinkled with Tinkerbell’s fairy dust cause it was more than amazing…… magical might be a good word to use. I can actually taste it right now just typing about it.

The Smoked Turkey also exceeded expectations. I had it cut in half to share with my colleagues and all were impressed. The Cranberry Orange Chutney gave it such a refreshing aftertaste. The orange stuck out more than anything but it was so sweet and savory. Another winner in our books.

The Reuben…… score another one for Garden of Eatin’. Good nice portion of meat smothered in dressing with sauerkraut. You can’t go wrong. The BLT (minus the T) was the final portion for lunch and my co-worker who is not a man of many words was pleased with what he had.

Overall we all left with big smiles on our faces. Not a single person was unhappy with what they had. I really do need to go back to order more potato salad. It was all high quality food.

We brought a Reuben back for my boss and to nobody’s surprise, she loved it as well.

Heading to their Food Truck for a separate review is next on my to do list as well.

Give Garden of Eatin’ a try and you’ll be pleasantly surprised with their food offerings.

Happy Dining,
Eddy

  1. You are 100% spot on with the potato salad. All the items we have ever had were quite good. The owner are fun as well. I hope they do well.
