If it’s one type of food that everybody loves, it’s tacos.
Tacos just may be the most universally loved food. There’s a day dedicated to it, Tuesdays. There are many articles of clothing marketing peoples love of tacos. So it’s no surprise this next event is sure to excite many.
It’s the Wichita Taco Fest; the first of it’s kind. Set for Saturday, June 24 from Noon to 7pm at Union State (701 E. Douglas), Wichita Taco Fest looks to capitalize on the popularity of tacos and what better city to have a Taco Fest in than Wichita?
When it comes to locally owned restaurants and food trucks, there are probably more taco related establishments than any other type of food.
Details are still coming out but here’s what we do know. Tickets are $5 (+ $1.27 convenience fee). You can purchase tickets by visiting their website at wichitatacofest.com. Tickets can also be purchased at all Mobilecomm Locations, Demo Skate Shop and more locations to be announced later. Here’s their synopsis of the event from their webpage:
The Wichita Taco Festival is a unique and dynamic one day family event that will fuse together Wichita’s love for tacos, margaritas & live music. Everyone loves tacos especially in the city of Wichita which is home to a plethora of Taco Establishments. The Wichita Taco Fest will include various competitions, live music, a gaming section, raffles and more. Festival attendees will be treated to a variety of sample size portions of tacos, chips & Salsa, margaritas & tequila shots. The festival hopes to provide a platform that can help local businesses, restaurants, bars, food trucks and the likes create awareness about their establishments. Get ready for a fun filled family day event that will promote unity, partnership, diversity and commerce amongst the city of Wichita.
According to their Facebook page, they will have $1 sample size tacos from 20 different vendors (restaurants and taco trucks). The committee at Wichita Taco Fest has a confirmed list of vendors who will be on hand and will be getting that to me soon.
There will also be a Tequila Tent/Booth where you can taste and compare different brands of Tequila. (HELLO UBER!!!!).
There’s going to be a Best Taco Competition where people can vote on their favorite taco. There’s also a Best Margarita Competition and Best Salsa Competition. And what event wouldn’t be complete without a Jalapeno Eating Contest?
We have reviewed numerous taco establishments all throughout the city and look forward to having many of the best in one enclosed area. Anticipation is already high for Wichita Taco Fest. Having been to so many different food and drink festivals like Midwest Beer Fest, Food Truck Events, Downtown Chili Cook Off, Ribfest, Baconfest, Blocktoberfest etc., We hope they can really do it right. Some have failed and some have been a success. From what we’ve been able to find out, they look to have a lot of cool stuff going on and the support of many local companies backing them.
