In this fall, this is very tough, in this fall I’m going to take my talents to downtown Wichita and enter the Wagonmasters Downtown Chili Cookoff.
LeBron James had his own Decision to announce his intentions back in 2010 so it only made sense for me to write a blog on my Decision.
For a decade, my friends and I have had our own chili cookoff. It’s a small little event where friends make their own chili, we all eat, hang out and judge which one is the best chili. It’s become an annual tradition for us. The past couple years, I’ve been in charge of hosting our department’s chili cookoff.
Best foodie event in town! |
Then there is the Wichita Wagonmasters Downtown Chili Cookoff. My friends and I have participated in the judging for years now and it’s always something we have enjoyed doing. The Wichita Wagonmasters put on what I consider to be the premiere foodie event in Wichita. There’s no other food related event in town that matches the level of organization and execution the Wagonmasters have. Before we participated in the judging, we attended the event as regular foodies who went out to try all the chili that was offered.
Over the past few years, we’ve discussed entering the cookoff but never got around to signing up. It was time to stop talking and time to start doing.
We’re officially signed up to join the cookoff and are really excited. We want to be out there in the crowd of people enjoying the weather, enjoying the atmosphere and interacting with fellow foodies.
The event takes place on Saturday, September 30 which gives us a little over two months to prepare. We need to figure out a team name, our plans to execute and more importantly a recipe. While I get lost in the kitchen, a few of my friends are culinary geniuses so I’m relying on them to find a recipe. Testing it will be the fun part for me.
Over these next twelve weeks, I hope to document this adventure via the blog. Just texting about this event with my teammates is making us giddy for the September 30 date.
If someone were to ask me what are chances are of winning the Grand Championship were…..
My response would be, “Not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven. And when I say that, I really believe it. Cause it’ll likely be zero.”
Are we doing this to win? Of course but unlike Hunger Games, the odds may not ever be in our favour. We will try our best to compete but won’t go home brokenhearted if it doesn’t happen. If anything, we are doing this to have fun. It’s a chance to get out in the city and enjoying one of the great events put on by the fine folks at the Wichita Wagonmasters.
After we decided we were going to enter, one of my friends and his business actually offered to sponsor our team which made this even sweeter. So I for sure want to give a shout out to Ruse Brown with UBS Financial Services Inc. It’s very nice to see a local guy and his employer support some random guys wanting to participate in a local event. Ruse is a great guy and if you’re ever looking for some financial services when it comes to planning, investing, lending, or anything, I would definitely recommend you give Ruse a call at 316-612-6513 or visit his website at www.ubs.com/fa/rusebrown.
Be on the lookout for September 30. You can get more information on this fun event at www.wagonmasterschili.com/ or check them out on Facebook. There won’t be lines of 1,000 people to get in, everyone will get their fare share of chili for $5, expect some cool things to go on at this year’s event and if anything, come over to our booth and try our chili!
Stay Tuned!
