The national food chain, Krab Kingz Seafood opened in Wichita this past week. With Lent just around the corner, this was the perfect timing for those looking for another seafood restaurant in town. My family in time stopped in over the weekend to get a first look to try their crab legs, shrimp, fish, lobster and everything else the menu had to offer.

Inside the restaurant seats up to 64 people and it’s all table service. This isn’t a fast food or fast casual type of restaurant. On Sunday around lunch, this place was already filled up. We were lucky to beat the rush and arrive just before there was a long wait time. The menu is very simple with two main areas of focus: their boiled items and their fried items. You can order items a la carte if you wish as well. For those people wanting alcohol, you’ll have to wait. They are still awaiting their liquor license.
Between the ten of us, we ordered an assortment of items off of the menu from the loaded platter, crab legs, fried lobster, shrimp pasta, fried fish and shrimp and more. Here’s a small sampling of some of the items from our lunch.
For starters, the fried shrimp pasta was hands down the best item we had. We were expecting it to be a little spicy. While it wasn’t at all, it was so flavorful. My cousin split it with her daughter and I found myself sneaking my fork on to their plate to get a forkful every now and then. The picture of the pasta doesn’t do the size of it justice either. It’s incredibly filling and big enough for two or three diners.
As for the seafood boil and fried lobster, I wouldn’t go into Krab Kingz expecting top-notch seafood that one would expect on the coast. For what it is, it’s good and delicious. There’s a lot of seafood snobs out there and this might not be the place for them. For us, we knew what to expect and Krab Kingz delivered on it for the most part. The fried lobster though was pretty tough which was unfortunate. The seafood boil was much better by comparison and perfect for the kids. Everybody also had orders of snow crabs. By comparison to other crab legs in Wichita which is already a limited option, this was very good. The meat came out fairly easily. You can choose the type of butter you want to go along with your crab; the cajun butter is an excellent choice!
One thing we were very impressed about at Krab Kingz was the service. They were incredibly engaging with all of us, making sure our needs were taken care of. Refills were never an issue. Granted this was literally opening weekend so they likely had a lot of staff on hand for training. Managers were going around making sure customers were happy and taking care of whatever issues they had. At our table, my fried lobster came out maybe ten minutes later than everybody elses meals and they gave me complimentary shrimp and fish while I waited. They did this without me even asking about my food; they took the initiative to approach me about it before it became an issue.
The menu is a little pricey but then again seafood isn’t cheap in Wichita unless you’re OK with lower end quality found at Chinese buffets.

Happy Dining,
