It’s not too often I’ll touch upon other restaurants outside of Wichita but for this review one little burger joint impressed me quite a bit. On a recent trip to Lawrence, KS, I did a Google search for restaurants in the area and came across The Burger Stand at The Casbah. Located on Mass Street, this restaurant received a lot of praise from customers and won awards for Best Burger and Best Fries in recent years.
Many times the hype is so much after reading many positive reviews but I can finally say they are right. The Burger Stand is worth a stop if you’re in the area.

Regarding the ambience, the closest similarity in Wichita you’ll find is probably Dempsey’s Burger Pub at Clifton Square. The vibe is very chill.
When you arrive, you stand in line to order. After you order, you grab your own seat and they call your name from the kitchen window when the food is ready. You pick your food up and that’s it. The night I went with friends, the place was packed; every seat was taken yet they still managed to get everybody’s food out in great time.
They also have a large numbers of beers on tap, all the liquor you could want, sodas, shakes, and even alcoholic shakes. Yes….alcoholic shakes! I should have tried one but settled for vodka.
The menu (found here) consists of burgers, “hawt doggz”, salads and sandwiches. They also have a large offering of different types of fries from truffle fries to Poutine fries to duck fat fries to Cajun fries to smoked tofu fries. The list goes on and on. For our visit we tried their Classic Burger, Fire Burger, Poutine fries, Cajun fries, onion rings and Chicago dog.
All the food was beyond amazing. The first few bites into the burger and we were amazed at how big, delicious and juicy the burgers were. My Fire burger had plenty of avocado but the habanero-cactus jam was a thing of beauty. It had a real nice kick to it that any spicy food fan would love.
The fries had a nice mix of being crispy and flavorful. My friend who had the Poutine fries for the first time was happy with the side and couldn’t stop. The Cajun fries were the perfect complement to my Fire burger. Another friend who had the onion rings called them the best onion rings ever.
They also have their own condiments that you can grab yourself along with pickles that soak in Habanero peppers. Both were amazing. I would highly recommend the Spicy Casbah BBQ and Chipotle Cocoa Ketchup.
We loved the atmosphere to the restaurant and think one in Wichita would do very well. It was very casual, low-key and friendly.
If you’re in the area, check it out. There’s also a location in Topeka.
Happy Dining,
Eddy

One of my pet peeves about Chicago Dogs. The mustard is the first topping to go on not the last.
