Bento Cafe’s Sushi Burritos: Combining two great worlds into one

Bento Cafe

I’m such a big fan of Mexican and Asian cuisines that when I was told one particular restaurant was combining both into one, I immediately had to go. Burritos? Sushi? Where do I sign up?

Well if you’re like me, then Bento Café is your spot!

At Bento Café, their menu consists build your own burritos, nachos, quesadillas, tacos and sushi. It’s not what you’d expect to see in most restaurants but that’s what they do. As you walk inside, there’s one sign that sticks out that you cannot miss,

Bento Cafe

So for the purpose of this visit, we stuck strictly with the sushi burritos. There are nine different sushi options for your burrito, two of which are raw: spicy tuna and spicy salmon. From there you can choose what you want to fill it with: seaweed, rice, crab-salad, avocado and many other options as seen below.

Personally, I’ll only eat raw sushi. I don’t mess with tempura stuff unless friends or family orders it. So we ended up ordering the spicy tuna and spicy salmon sushi burritos.

When I first told people about this dish, some were grossed out by the thought and I don’t know why. It’s really just an oversized sushi roll that’s wrapped in seaweed not a tortilla as some would expect. I’d imagine if you cut up the sushi burrito into bite sized pieces, what you’d end up with is just regular sushi. The quality was great and it was delicious. If you’re worried about it being too spicy, don’t be. I didn’t find it to be spicy at all.

The service was great and the people were friendly. It’s definitely one dish I’d try again; probably more often if I lived out west.

If you’re looking for something a little different, give this one a try.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
