El Jalisco Restaurant Review

El Jalisco

Our adventures took us to south Wichita as we stopped by El Jalisco Mexican Restaurant. It was a restaurant highly recommend to one of my friends so we made a visit this past month to try one of the many Mexican restaurants you can find around town.

There are plenty of options at El Jalisco. Many typical favorites commonly found at other Mexican restaurants fill up the menu here along with other dishes like pupusas. If you’re in the mood for a beer, they have you covered. Here’s the menu:

Complimentary chips and salsa are available as well. The salsa really packs quite a bit of heat. Our first chipful of El Jalisco’s salsa shocked us right away at how hot it was. While hotter than most complimentary salsas around town, it was still delicious and had a small mesquite flavor that we liked.

After browsing through the menu, I ordered the carne asada tacos as they were the only type of tacos on the menu. I also went with the pupusa. My friend went with the flautas at the recommendation from her friend who said El Jalisco’s were the best in town.

The tacos weren’t all that special. The tortillas were a little soggy and the carne asada was dry and didn’t offer much flavor. Compared to other restaurants in town, El Jalisco’s was just lacking something. As for the flautas, my friend was disappointed with the recommendation she received. For a fried dish, we were discussing whether a restaurant could really do much to make their flautas that much better.

The best meal we had there was easily the pupusas. This was my friend’s first experience with them and she really loved them. We had the mixed pupusas which were packed with meat and cheese and the ratio of ingredients inside were perfect. The pickled vegetables really elevate the dish to an even higher level.

We didn’t get a chance to try any other dishes like the quesadillas, burritos, or enchiladas. Perhaps our experience at El Jalisco would have been better had we went with something different. Granted I’m always going to order tacos at any Mexican restaurant as I feel that’s one thing they should be able to do right.

If you have suggestions on what to order there, we’d love to hear them in the comments.

Happy Dining,
Eddy

  1. This was the worst experience I’ve had for lunch in years! I ordered the flout those and was served bad meat it was horrible! Then I also ordered a chicken burrito which the chicken had some very strange flavor and the chicken was no good and the spices were very odd I had never tasted these kinds of flavors at a Mexican restaurant before and I have had many many Mexican meals. The cookies came out and apologize for me not liking the food and told me not to pay. Then went about to leave the restaurant trying to pay for my food be late waitress said that I have to pay for all of it because I ordered it with a very snotty and nasty attitude. She did not want to ask the cook she did not want to try to please me in any kind of way because she just wanted the money. I will not be returning to this location and I will not tell anybody to go to the store location in fact I would tell them to avoid this location because of the horrible service in the rotten food.
