For close to a year, there’s been a restaurant open at 9th and Waco that serves Mexican food but also has a wonderful offering of pastries, drinks and assorted desserts. We took a big group out to Jungle Snack & Fruit Bar to give it a try because who can say no to desserts?

While eating lunch one afternoon, one of the guys I was eating with suggested we run over to Jungle Snack & Fruit Bar for desserts. So our lunch group drove out there along with his family. Come to find out, the owner of this place is the wife of the Juarez Bakery owner.
Inside the place is very vibrant and colorful. Desserts and drinks can be found all over the place. There’s also plenty of seating inside.
Everybody ordered a dessert. I didn’t get pictures of everything but we had such items as banana floats, fresas con crema (strawberries and cream), and sundaes. We also went with some elote because it sounded good at the time.
I ordered a full pineapple where they gutted the insides and stuffed it with pineapple slices, chamoy and whatever else the Willy Wonka’s Oompa Loompas behind their closed doors could find. The name of the dessert escapes me at the moment but if you do order it, make sure there are a few people with you. It’s at least a 2-3 person job.
Everybody loved what they ordered. Two of the people in our group said it is by far the best place in town for desserts.
Our major concern was the service there was very slow. It seemed as though it was just one person making everything. And the lady who was working on everything, really took her time making everything look perfect. Each container was like a blank canvas and she was working on her masterpiece. So just be sure to allot yourself some free time if you plan to go. Other than that, we all had a great time there. I certainly intend to go back with the kids because I know they will just love this place.
