Every now and then I will toss up one of these quick recommendations. It’s simply a way for me to make a suggestion at any particular restaurant I happen to be by or go to often. We browse through the menu and pick one of our favorite items there. Our latest stop brought us to AJ’s Sports Grill at Northrock Lanes. It’s a place my friends and I will go to every now and then and a second home for five years of my life when I was really into bowling leagues. So let’s head to 29th and Rock for the latest installment of my favorite feature: “Must Try Menu Item“.
For this edition of the Must Try Menu Item, I was joined by a handful of friends for afternoon drinks. We decided to go to AJ’s Sports Grill. While there we figured, why not just grab a bite to eat as well. Since we all couldn’t decide what to order, we settled on one big group meal for everyone: the popular 29-inch Superdome pizza.
The 29” Superdome cost $37.99 for one topping, $39.99 for two toppings, $42.99 for three toppings. Or you can settle for the Perfect 300 for $47.99 and that includes pork & Italian sausage, pepperoni, beef, Canadian bacon, green peppers, black olives, onions, mushrooms, and cheese. That’s what we always go with minus the olives.
Once it’s cut up, there are over 50 little slices which is said to be enough to feed 11-13 people. Our party had six people and there were plenty of leftovers to go around. AJ’s should really turn the Superdome into one of the eating competitions around town. This pizza will rarely ever make it into the discussion of best pizza in Kansas. But for bar food or better yet, bowling alley food, it’s pretty damn tasty. Goes even better with a stiff alcoholic drink or a big 32 ounce beer.
The service is even superb. One may not expect that at a place like this being a sports grill. But for the decades I’ve been going to Northrock and AJ’s, it’s been great. I remember dating back to college, ordering this pizza with buddies, and enjoying an evening there. A lot has changed over that time but the Superdome and service there hasn’t.
Surely by now everyone has heard of the famous Superdome pizza…….right?
