The most requested food truck review for one I haven’t done yet was Road Runner Mexican Fast Food. It’s a mobile vendor parked by Crystal Lake Liquor at 53rd and Meridian.

When I called and asked for their hours, I was told they were open all day. So I wasn’t able to get a clear set time they opened or closed. For what it’s worth, I dropped by around noon and they were already set up. Of course with the winter weather upon us, it’s always best to confirm any food truck is open before visiting.
My meal started off with a single tamale. It was one of the smaller tamales I’ve had this holiday season. While the masa to meat filling balance was well done, it just wasn’t on par with some other options I’ve had around town. Something was just missing for me that I couldn’t put my finger on. Fortunately that wasn’t where my lunch ended.
I ordered their Road Runner burrito which included steak, bell peppers, onions, cheese, rice and beans. For $6.50, I received a big huge burrito that was quick to fill me up after eating half of it. It was like two meals in one. There were copious amounts of steak, peppers and all sorts of fixings to please my taste buds. It was definitely one of the better burritos I’ve had in quite some time. Their red salsa only made my experience better. I have half of it in my fridge right now awaiting my return.
One thing I wasn’t able to get a picture of was their champurrado. It was a warm chocolate-based atole drink. It was creamy, smooth and delicious. I’m telling you all, you HAVE to get this next time you go. It’s a must-try with any meal there and even better in this weather.
Final verdict on Road Runner? Get a burrito and champurrado then thank me later.
