First Look at El Patron Mexican Restaurant

Stopping by Towne West Mall, I came across a new dining option: El Patron Mexican Restaurant. Seeing as how I’ve never been there, I figured why not make a brief stop for a quick first look at the new spot.

The menu was very simple and in line with many of the late night taco trucks in town. They had tacos, burritos, tortas, quesadillas, and even hard shell tacos for those who like to live on the edge. 🙂

Since I ate earlier in the day, I kept my first visit to El Patron at just five taco. I asked for every meat they had available.

One of the biggest things I noticed in their tacos was the lack of meat poured into the tortillas. For those who are big on portion sizes, the amount at first glance appears to be less than many of the popular off-the-beaten-path taco spots in town. But that can easily be overlooked if the tacos are delicious. Unfortunately, they weren’t. All of the meats were bland and tasted as if they had not been seasoned at all. The marinated pork had the distinct color but no flavor to match. On a positive note, I loved how the tortillas had a nice crisp to them but that was my only high note on my brief visit.

I love tacos and all but this one fell flat for me. Perhaps if I was at Towne West again and in the mood for Mexican food, I would give them another try. But this isn’t a place, I’d go out of my way for.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,

  1. Just a question where have you found the best Mexican Torta’s? I know there are two kinds. The ones you can actually pick up and eat and maybe get a little juice from the pico or salsa and the ones which are so loaded with everything plus a sauce that you have to eat with a knife and fork. I prefer the former.
