What new restaurants and fun things are coming in 2020?

A new year. A new decade. That also means lots of new openings coming in 2020. When it comes to dining and entertainment in Wichita, there’s no shortage of newness coming your way. Here’s what you can expect coming down the pipeline.

Dine Out Wichita
Shameless plug but you come here to find out where to eat right? Over 40 restaurants have signed on for Dine Out Wichita. It’s an event I created that replaces the old Restaurant Week that ended a few years ago. The 25 days of food specials with money going to benefit The United Way of the Plains begins January 6. Check out DineOutWichita.com for a list of all participating restaurants and their specials.

Albero Bistro
Greenwich Place
If you love Albero Café, you will be excited to know that a sequel is on the way. It will be located at Greenwich Place in the same strip as Freezing Moo. This location should be open in the 1st quarter of 2020.

Barn’rds
37th and Maize
They have broken ground on the restaurant 13 years in the making. The second Barn’rds should be here this summer.

California Tortillas
2244 N Greenwich Rd Suite 100
Taking over the former Dickey’s Barbecue Pit space at the Village at Greenwich will be California Tortillas. They are a fast-casual restaurant chain that is big on grass-fed beef, fresh ingredients and avoiding preservatives and additives when possible. Their menu consists of tacos, burritos, fajitas, quesadillas and salads. This one should be open within the next couple of months.

Chops & Eggs
The all day breakfast chain, Chops & Eggs, should be arriving in Wichita this year with two locations; one out east and one out west. No word yet on exact location or time frame on when they plan to open.

Goddard Aquatic Complex
19800 W Kellogg
It’s supposed to be Goddard’s version of Great Wolf Lodge. The aquatic complex should be ready to go this summer.

Jersey Mike’s
2564 N Greenwich Rd
The popular fast-casual sub shop is finally coming to Wichita. No word yet on when they will arrive.

Los Guaches
1451 N. Broadway
The family of La Chinita was hoping to open a second Mexican restaurant on North Broadway in 2019. Rumor has it they are still trying to have it ready but nothing has been set in stone.

Noble House Hawaiian Restaurant
3019 E Central
The Hawaiian restaurant is on the move. Last month, they closed the door on their east Douglas location and will be moving to 3019 E Central. They are hoping to be ready this month.

Pizza Ranch
2121 N Tyler Road
Taking over the former Jimmie’s Diner space is Wichita’s first Pizza Ranch. The all-you-can-eat buffet hopes to be ready this spring.

Round1
Towne East Mall
The entertainment venue which will include a bowling alley and a restaurant could be here by the spring of 2020.

Sam’s Southern Eatery
6600 W Central Ave
The Southern restaurant with plenty of fried options will be opening January 15.

Senor Munchies
1052 N Waco
Señor Munchies is a Latino-inspired candy store that will be taking over the former Jungle Snack & Fruit bar space. They plan to open in the 1st quarter of 2020.

Shawarma Restaurant
2020 N Woodlawn Blvd
A new Mediterranean restaurant is set to take over the former Zaytun space. No word yet on when they plan to open.

Taco John’s
Northeast Corner of Kellogg & West
Wichita is about to get our first Taco John’s. They will be located as an attached restaurant next to the new Kwik Shop. You can expect an opening sometime this month.

Taquería La Chona
3415 E Harry
A new Mexican restaurant is set to take over the old Poblano space on Harry. The owners used to own a food truck. Word is they should be open in about a month’s time.

Toast
141 E Kay St, Derby, KS
The French breakfast restaurant will be an upscale breakfast spot with many French-inspired pastries. Be on the lookout for this locally owned Derby restaurant to open in the first half of 2020.

Torchy’s Tacos
2191 N Rock Road
The popular chain, Torchy’s Tacos, is headed to 21st and Rock Road. Expect this restaurant to open mid-to-late 2020.

Wichita Wind Surge
The new Triple-A baseball team and the new ballpark will be here in a few months time. Opening day is set for April 14. You can check out their team site here.

Of course there are some other dining options currently in limbo. Places like Petra Café, Big B’s Beef and Cool Breeze Pizza were all expected to open in 2019. I’ll have to follow up on these places to check their status and see if it’s still a possibility for 2020.

There are a few more coming in 2020 that I can’t exactly reveal yet but one will be a breakfast option for those on the go and another will be a sequel to a locally owned Wichita restaurant. And of course the food truck fleet will grow with one new option that looks to capitalize on a genre untouched by current food trucks.

….and since it’s always asked, “No. Cheesecake Factory still isn’t coming to Wichita.”

If I’m missing anything else, feel free to post in the comments below or email me!

Happy Dining,
Eddy
