Let’s talk Chinese buffets. There are many options around town and when trying to compare them, it’s only fair to stop by every single one of them. The latest stop brought us to China Star Super Buffet. They are located at 5825 W Central, right off of the highway.

Let me save you some time. This was the worst of all the Chinese buffets I’ve been to. I’ve had the buffets at Lee’s, Shanghai, Super Buffet by the mall, New China Super Buffet, Teppanyaki, Buffet City, you name it, and there was no doubt in my mind I did not enjoy this one.
I stopped by around lunch and there were around 8 other customers in.
For starters, the steamed rice was not in a steamer. It was sitting out on the buffet line and rock hard. Seriously rock hard steamed rice should be a crime. Some other dishes like the beef broccoli had a mushy texture to it that didn’t resonate well with my taste buds. The hot & sour soup was bland. Most of what I tried felt like it had been sitting there for a long time which was sad given it was over the lunch hour. There was a Hunan pork dish on the buffet that was easily the best by default and I stuck with eating that for most of my time there.
Here’s a look at some of what they had on hand:
Service was a little lacking. I watched a lady seat customers as they came in, gave them their drinks and went back to her table and did whatever. Overall it was very inattentive.
With plenty of other options in town, I’ll stick to other Chinese buffets.
Happy Dining,
Eddy

Service aside I do not agree with you. While it is not as good as it was with the previous owner it is still one of the best in town. Jalapeno chicken and Orange chicken are by far the best dishes on their buffet. No other place in town can compete with them on those. The steamed rice, it sounds like you didn’t stir it before scooping it up. Top layer is usually kinda hard but dig deeper and get outstanding rice. They also have what is to my taste, the best fried rice in town.
There was no stirring needed. The entire thing was rock hard.
