While I was out west, I decided to swing by Sugar Shak Donuts. Thinking it was a totally brand new place I’ve never been to, I found out they were essentially a Daylight Donuts operations. I’ve been to many around the city but figured why not just grab some donuts regardless.

With COVID-19 taking place, orders had to be called in or placed outside of the restaurant. So I peeped in the windows to get an idea of what I wanted. I settled on chocolate glaze, cream-filled, maple, glaze and a cinnamon roll.
My visit took place in the morning and was hoping for some fresh warm donuts but what I received was more on the lukewarm nearly hard side. The donuts weren’t very firm which was kind of a letdown. Admittedly, not a single donut really wowed or pleased any of us.
I’m not sure if we just happen to come by a bad time or if the donuts had been sitting out for a long time but it just wasn’t a good visit for us. The cinnamon roll was very bready with hardened icing sitting over the top…..also not good.
One positive was the ladies working there were all very positive and helpful. Unfortunately the donuts didn’t match for us that morning.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been there but when I went it was really good. Now if it has changed hands that could be a reason. But I’m with ya donuts need to be fresh as if it were out of the fryer!
I love the Sugar Shak on Tyler/21st Amazingly Sweet Owner with really good donuts and little smokies for breakfast. I read all the way through your review expecting just the opposite From what Ai read. Must have been an off day with all the crazy going on. It would be worth a second try if ever you are out West again. Deb
You must have gone on an off day, because I am a donut connoisseur and they have, hands-down, the very best donuts in Wichita. Not sure what happened on your day.
