What to expect at The Belmont in College Hill

Many people have been anxiously awaiting the opening of The Belmont located at College Hill. A big part of the reason why diners have been excited? The new restaurant offers an open layout with many seats overlooking Douglas. There’s a spacious patio facing the north and the east along with big retractable doors on three sides of the building to give the restaurant more natural light (not the beer) and an ambiance as if you were dining somewhere outside of Wichita. The building is really unlike any place in the city.

I was invited out to a soft opening before they opened to the public. Sometimes in those instances, the service is very personal, the food can be free, and/or the event is set up for training purposes so it could really skew the experience even more. So instead of giving a full-blown out review, I decided to give you an idea of what to expect. Then once the newness has died down, I’ll go back in for a real review with some friends who’ve never been to get different perspectives.

Inside the restaurant seats around 40 people. We sat in one of the half-circle booths that had blue velvet seats. Our view was directly looking onto Douglas. It was possibly the best seat in the house.

The menu features many American dishes like salads, burgers, sandwiches, and a full cocktail menu.

We started off with the Fried Green Tomatoes.

Afterwards our dinner consisted of fried chicken, salmon and pork steak.

I’m not much into making predictions but I can see The Belmont turning into one of the big hot spot hangouts in Wichita if they deliver on the food and service. They already offer one of the best ambiances in town and if the weather is nice then it’s a double win.

Expect big crowds here soon.

Here’s the menu that was available during the soft opening:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
