Tacos TJ 664 originally started off as a food truck that would park outside an apartment complex in Riverside a couple of years ago. I have fond memories of them staying open in snow storms and crazy weather. Late last year, they opened in the former Sonic/Mo’s Hash House/Sloppy Joe’s space at 803 N West St.

Months after that, they started to really go gangbusters. It’s to the point now, you can expect long lines and sometimes wait times with big crowds coming into get their food.

The restaurant specializes in street food popular in Tijuana, Mexico. It’s different from many of the other street tacos found in Wichita. For instance, some of their tacos have pinto beans, guacamole and grilled cactus.

A few of their popular tacos include their choriqueso, carne asada made with prime steak and birria tacos. If you get their birria tacos, it’s a must you get some consume to dip it in.

Other popular dishes include their shrimp tacos. On Thursday, they have a dollar special for adobada tacos.

If you’re looking to relax with a drink at hand, I’d recommend ordering a michelada. There’s now seating outside so you can enjoy it outside if you wish.

I would highly recommend you follow their Facebook page. They occasionally have one-day specials. For instance, on the final day of the Most Liked Taco voting they had a bacon wrapped burrito. Bacon fans, you do NOT want to miss this the next time its available. I mean it’s a freaking pork or steak burrito wrapped in bacon. What more could you want?

Get it quick though because I’ve seen it sell out within hours of opening.

To add to it all, its run by a really cool down-to-earth group of people. There’s a reason why big crowds come and park in every single stall at the restaurant. It’s crazy busy even in the middle of the afternoon. That’s a true testament to the quality of Tacos TJ 664. A little bit of something is available on the menu for everybody.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
