First Look at Buchanan’s Bar & Grill

A new restaurant opened in south Wichita called Buchanan’s Bar & Grill. They serve many traditional Mexican dishes including many seafood options and have a full-service bar. In the evenings, the restaurant hosts live music on their stage and dance floor.

The place was quite huge inside. There’s plenty of seating to go around especially once restaurants and bars can operate at 100%.

I can’t speak for the entertainment or live music there as I was simply there for lunch.

I’ll try not to bore you all with the details either as my visit was underwhelming to say the least. Things started off well with their complimentary chips and salsa. They had a chunky green salsa that was very flavorful.

Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. I ordered their buche, lengua, asada and al pastor tacos. Every single meat had a pungent skunky taste to it as if they were all cooked together. I literally ate a couple of bites of each taco and couldn’t finish them. There was something very off about the tacos that did not sit well with my taste buds.

I also had a taco borracho. I was told it was made with beef and cheese. It tasted almost like a quesadilla. This was decent but when compared to the other tacos tasted like a 5-star meal.

I was about to call it quits but forgot I ordered some of their buffalo wings. First bite into the wings and it was like chewing on a bicycle tire (something I last did when I was five years old). It was very rubbery and chewy. If I had to rank these wings against every one in Wichita, they were the worst.

My server was pleasant and stayed on top of things. She noticed I didn’t finish my tacos and I told her exactly what I said above in the blog. She goes, “OK, I’ll see what I can do.” which I believe was code word for, “Just wait until you try the wings.”

I was supposed to order extra food to take home for my family but decided to go elsewhere for that. I ate one and a half wing and asked for my tab. It’ll take a lot for me to return if it’s for food. Drinks, perhaps. Food….I don’t know.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
