Let’s Review Dairy Queen!

Let’s review Dairy Queen!

Dairy Queen is an American chain of soft serve ice cream and fast-food restaurants that was founded 80 years ago in Joliet, IL. There are nearly 7,000 locations wordwide. Roughly 10 of those locations can be found here in the Wichita area.

To cover this review of Dairy Queen, it constituted multiple visits to six different locations. Let’s face it, all the kids love ice cream and Dairy Queen has been a popular request among every single kid branching out to my nieces and nephews. Thus I’ve been able to stop by so many different DQ’s.

Every visit to Dairy Queen always includes multiple blizzard orders. It’s a soft-serve mechanically blended with mix-in ingredients such as sundae toppings and/or pieces of cookies, brownies, or candy.

Every month there are new flavors of the month so everyone always wants to go check them out. When it comes to food, everybody knows I’ll never say no for food picture opportunities.

For as often as we go to Dairy Queen, we never eat anything other than their ice cream treats. It’s been years since I’ve eaten a hamburger or anything like that there so this review just covers treats.

The Blizzards are consistent among all the locations. I think that’s why the kids love it. They know exactly what they are getting.

Occasionally they also have shake specials like a Tiramisu Cake Shake which was really amazing.

And every so often, the kids ask for their ice cream cakes. I have so many memories of these cakes at so many birthday parties. Like the Blizzards, they’ve always been consistent.

The one thing that isn’t consistent is the customer service. There are two locations that stick out as absolutely horrid. The West Maple by Target and East Central near Central and Edgemoor. I’m not sure what’s going on with their drive thru system but they constantly get our orders wrong. I can repeat the order multiple times before pulling up to the window and they will still get it wrong. And when they do get it wrong, they are annoyed. If it wasn’t for COVID, I’d just walk in and place my order.

One benefit of Dairy Queen is they have an app that offers coupons. It’s extremely beneficial as it could save you nearly 30-50% off on Blizzards. That’s the positive, the negative is both the West Maple and East Central location conveniently has their scanners broken, so they can’t scan the app. The whole point of our visit was to use the app coupons and of course they can’t do anything about it. This would be OK if this just happened once or twice or even three times but it’s not.

What I’m trying to say if you haven’t caught on yet is I can’t stand the Maple or Central locations.

My favorite Dairy Queen location? The one near Grove and Lincoln.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
