Nippon Japanese Grill Review

While out in Maize, KS, we were looking for a place to grab a quick lunch. I knew just the spot, Nippon Japanese Grill. It’s a quick-service Japanese restaurant that aims to offers Japanese steakhouse taste and quality at a reasonable price. That’s actually a direct quote from their Facebook page. I’ve never been there before which gave me even more motivation to check them out.

We dropped in on a Sunday and lucked out. It was Kids Eat Free day. Even if it wasn’t Sunday, all of their kids meal were an affordable $3.99.

For lunch, we went with the shrimp hibachi which was grilled in garlic and butter, then mixed with peas, carrots, eggs and a splash of soy. We also ordered a calamari dinner which came with lo mein. There were four kids meal items to choose from and we settled on the chicken fried rice.

Everything was out in under ten minutes. As far as quick-service Japanese style hibachi restaurants go, this was pretty good. The portion size was fitting for the price was paid. We didn’t leave hungry; that’s for sure.

If you’ve ever heard Emperor’s Japanese Grill, it was very reminiscent of that. But all that makes sense because they are all owned by the same family of owners. We like Emperor’s for the most part, sometimes there’s some inconsistent food at Emperor’s. Fortunately, our visit to Nippon was a quality one. Both the shrimp and calamari tasted fresh; the fried rice was cooked properly and the noodles were soft and tender. The same sauce options found at Emperor’s were also available at Nippon.

As for my daughter, she wasn’t feeling the fried rice that afternoon but had no problem devouring all of my noodles.

A big difference on my visit to Nippon compared to Emperor’s was how much more personable the service was. There was a lady working that afternoon who was just incredible. She was warm, nice and engaging…. the simple touches to make our visit enjoyable.

Overall, it was a solid lunch and visit.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
