Rumors have been swirling about a new restaurant opening at 29th and Rock. I can finally confirm the news is correct. Last month, Cafe Asia closed their restaurant for good at 6456 E. Central.
After twenty years in the business, the owners needed a break. Running a restaurant was lots of hard work especially for the couple who have been in the business for twenty years.
Earlier in the year they were presented with an opportunity to partner with someone and take over the former Rita’s Italian Ice space at 2929 N Rock Road. Having a partner would all the Gans who owned Cafe Asia to take much of the pressure off them and not have to focus on 100% of the day-to-day operations of running a restaurant.
I spoke with one of the owners of Cafe Asia, Yook Gan and she told me Asian Wok will serve a variety of different Asian dishes from Thai to Malaysian to Chinese. Many of the popular dishes from Cafe Asia are expected to be available as well.
She has no timetable for when the restaurant will open. Right now, they just want to enjoy their little break from the restaurant industry, take a big deep breath and take in some much-needed rest and relaxation.
When Asian Wok is ready to open, she’ll be sure to pass on the information to me to relay to all of you.
Happy Dining,
Eddy
