In December, Lina’s Mexican Restaurant at 4920 E. Central officially closed over the weekend after being in business for five years. What some people may not know is Lina’s is part of a franchise and the owners of the east Central location did not want to pay the franchise fees anymore.
Another Lina’s Mexican Restaurant which is separately owned and operated is located at 3570 N. Woodlawn and remains open though.
The owners of the east Central location still wanted to be in the restaurant game and will be opening a new restaurant this year called El Taquero. They have taken over the original La Chinita space at 1451 N. Broadway. Some of you may remember that back in 2019, La Chinita moved a few blocks down to 1051 N. Broadway after operating at their original space since 1976. La Chinita originally planned to keep both spots and operate two different restaurants but those plans fell through.
The original La Chinita space has been vacant since July of 2019.
While there’s no timetable for when the new restaurant will open, I’m told it will be a completely rebranded restaurant free of the Lina’s name with a revamped menu. When the owners come up with a name and an opening date, they will let me know to pass on to all of you.
Happy Dining,
Eddy
