Over the years, it’s been Brown’s Wing World, Kandy’s Soul Food and most recently Just Simply Shonda on top of the many restaurants before that. The latest iteration isĀ Chicken Chicken which is the first new restaurant to open in Wichita in 2021. Owners did a fantastic job of sprucing up the building to give it some life and color along with adding in a drive-thru.

Like many restaurants before it, the menu consisted of burgers and fried items like nuggets, fries, fish, wings and shrimp. And like many of its predecessors, everything was very affordable. There wasn’t a single item on the menu over $7.50. A big positive for them was also the usage of an actual menu. Before, many of the restaurants wrote their menus on the window or had a piece of paper. Chicken Chicken joined the modern day revolution and had a full menu with pictures created…. kudos to them.
Over lunchtime, I pulled up to the drive-thru and placed an order for their 7pc hot wings and 10pc crispy shrimp. It took maybe 10-15 minutes for my order to be prepared.
The wings were very reminiscent of the Tyson brand wings you find at the grocery store. From the size and the flavor, it was almost like an exact match. That can be a positive or negative depending on who you are. We actually keep a bag of them at home to have around when we are in a pinch. It’s not bad but at the same time, it wasn’t great that it’d make me want to go out of my way for again. The fries were decent but could have used a little seasoning or salt on them.
The 10pc of fried shrimp had some potential. For starters, they were big thick pieces which was a big plus. They were advertised as crispy shrimp and there was no shortage of crispiness going on. The shrimp felt like they were fried just a little too long. The outer edges were tough on half of the pieces. Other pieces felt like it was chewing Nerds candy. But for the few pieces that weren’t too crispy, they were excellent. It was just a matter of finding the right pieces to eat. In the end, I ate them all because I didn’t want it to go to waste but there was lots of breading pulled off simply because of how tough it was.
History hasn’t been kind to any restaurant at 2419 E. 13th St. N. I’m not sure what the future holds for Chicken Chicken. Perhaps it can catch on. The restaurant next door, Berneal’s Carryout, has been there for a while offering cheap burgers, so maybe Chicken Chicken can make it as well. Give it a try some time if you’re up for something new and let me know what you think in the comments below.
Here’s the menu.
Happy Dining,
Eddy

Hello,
I just wanted to ask if you had been back to “Chicken Chicken” since posting this review? I was surprised to hear this type of an opinion about a place I know only as FANTASTIC!! I mean that wholeheartedly, I felt like I had finally found that “hole in the wall” place everybody wants to find but for some reason we just never seem to be the lucky one who happens by the kind of place that makes you think “Holy Crap” this is AWESOME!! I mean that is EXCATLY how i felt the first time i decided to check it out! That was about a year ago i think and ive been back easily 25 to 30 times since then.. No Kidding! I was extremely pleased with chicken tenders I ordered the 1st time enough so, that I have ordered them EVERY time I’ve eaten there since! I always go with the fried okra as my side, I have tried the fries as well and I think the owners have learned the value of having a good amount of seasoning on the fries they serve, they definitely have not been skimpy on flavor at all!! Honestly I would urge you to stop by and give them another shot at pleasing you, this time maybe stay away from the wings and try out the tenders, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the amount of really juicy and tender chunks of Tenderloin you’ll get and more then likely you will have leftovers, all for under $15!
Anyways, that’s just what I think..
Based off this, I will go back soon.
