One of my favorite tacos and food trucks in town: Tacos El Sol

One of these days I’m going to either put out a list of my favorite tacos  or my favorite food trucks in town. The day I do, it’s safe to say Tacos El Sol will be on either of those lists. They’ve been one of our favorite trucks in town and in our regular rotation of eateries ever since the very first time we tried them. I recently said that people should always be the biggest champion and cheerleader for their favorite businesses in town. So, I’m going to practice what I preach and write about one of the best.

Tacos El Sol, also known as El Sol de Michoacan Tacos Performance as listed on their Facebook page, sells tacos, tortas, burritos, ceviche, and tamales. The meats include asada, al pastor, carnitas, buche, pollo, barbacoa, cabeza, and lengua.

There are typically three meals we get there when it’s available:

Ceviche is one of my favorite offerings there when it’s in season. And with it being Lent, they have it back on the menu. Their ceviche is one of the most affordable dishes in town and feeds a ton of people. What I love about their ceviche is that it’s a lot of fish but not overly fishy in taste; nor does it contain lots of cucumber to make it look deceivingly bigger. There’s such a nice zesty blast in each bite that keeps you coming back for more.

When it comes to burritos, Tacos El Sol has a bomb green chili burrito. I love green chili so much and they smother their burritos in it. It’s also spicy but the subtle flavorful kind that anybody would love. And if you’re hungry, this will fill you up. It’s a hefty burrito that’s packed with tons of pork. Just take a look at this beauty.

And lastly, their tacos. They have one of the best, if not, the best al pastor tacos in town. For Megan, it’s her favorite and for me, it’s an easy way to her heart when I say, “Should we go get al pastor tacos at Tacos El Sol?” Their al pastor is sweet and savory but most of all, amazing. And if you love different types of meat, I highly recommend their cabeza.

Their cabeza is very tender and probably one of the softest taco meats you’ll find. It has a supple feel in your mouth. As for the flavor, it tastes like a very lean piece of meat. Don’t be too alarmed when you look up what cabeza is. Just try it, it’s great.

One thing I highly recommend is to call in your order. The family who owns the truck is a super nice that puts a lot of love into their food. It certainly shows in the taste. They are definitely one of my favorites. Like I said, try it out. The proof is in the pudding or in this case, taco.
