Everybody loves a good deal. On Mondays, The Hive in Valley Center has one that has been drawing lots of interest. From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., they are offering $5 KC strips with additional sides for one dollar. Seeing as though I haven’t been to The Hive before, I wanted to check it out.

The last time I walked into the building, the bar was called Spirit’s. I’ve lost many brain cells since then but here’s what the new interior looks like.
Once I found a seat, I immediately placed my order for a K.C. strip. The steaks are 6 ounces. I could order up to two sides at $1 each and went with a fully loaded baked potato and asparagus. Another thing to keep in mind is the deal is available for dine-in only.
For my sides, the asparagus was fantastic. It was oily and buttery, just the way I like it. It wasn’t overcooked and had the right firmness in each bite. The baked potato was topped with plenty of bacon and cheese and was accompanied by ramekins of butter and sour cream. That too was a fantastic side especially for just a dollar.
I ordered mine rare and rare it was! The steak was cooked as ordered which is all I could ask for. I enjoyed it. Nobody should be comparing it to the fine steakhouses in town but what you’re getting is an affordable meal that’s going to satisfy if you temper expectations. Could you get a better steak at many places? Of course, but if you’re going for a super cheap meal then have at it.
I loved the seasoning used on the steak. Even for it’s size, it was juicy and tender. I quickly devoured the K.C. strip and should have ordered another. My tab was $7 and change, not many places you can eat like that for a minimal amount.
To top things off, the service was incredible. My server’s name was Taylor who was very friendly and engaging. I listened to her talk about her vision for The Hive and how to improve things. Just hearing her passion for it, made me my experience more enjoyable.
