Hana Revisited in Downtown Wichita

One of the downtown restaurants that had a tough year in 2020 was Hana. They were closed and open and then closed and open again. When trying to decide where to eat with some friends, we decided why not go give some love to one of the restaurants where we used to frequent before the pandemic hit.

During our lunch, I started out with some kimchi while my friends went with a side salad. Hana has some of the best kimchi in town. Theirs is made in house and has a spicy flavorful kick to it that doesn’t punch too hard; it’s light enough to keep you coming back for more.

We opted not to go with sushi on our visit. Both of my friends went with the Bi Bim Bab. I decided to eat light and order their Udon noodle soup. You can never go wrong with their Bi Bim Bab. Both friends highly enjoyed the dish. It’s a bowl of steamed rice, topped with zucchini, cucumbers, sprouts, spinach, lettuce, carrots, and a scrambled egg. You get your choice of protein and they went with shrimp. It’s quite the arrangement of flavors mixed into one that compliment each other well.

The Udon noodle soup was a very simple and basic dish. The broth tasted similar to a miso soup but even lighter in flavor. Of all the noodles in the history of noodles, udon is probably my favorite, so this was right up my alley. I wanted a lunch that wasn’t going to be so heavy and this really hit the spot for us.

Hana was running short-staffed that day. It’s something I’ve seen in quite a bit of restaurants that have started to adjust to a pick-up in traffic and other businesses fully reopening. Many of these places are having problems finding servers to fill their staff. I believe there were just two people running the floor that day and they were busting their butts.

Here’s the menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
