While trying to find a place to eat, I let my mother be the decision-maker. Her choice? Pho Ong 8. She hadn’t checked out the restaurant since they moved to their new location at 3801 E. Harry St. As any good son, I obliged and we had a family dinner at the southside Vietnamese restaurant.

We started our dinner off with some egg rolls and wings. Both were great starts to our meal. The wings were meaty with a light salt and pepper seasoning on them. My daughter has been on a big egg roll kick lately and devoured these as quick as possible (that’s dad talk for “She took three hours to eat two of them”).
The stir-fried udon noodles were delicious as usual. It was a big heaping pile of noodles, bean sprouts, chicken and more. Udon noodles are our favorite of the noodles and Pho Ong 8 whips up a great dish with them. I didn’t snap a picture of them but here’s one from last time we stopped by.
For our remaining dishes, we had the Bo Kho, pho and bun.
The only other item I can speak to is the bun. It’s a dish my mother and I ordered. The grilled pork chops offered a rich deep flavor; I wish I could buy whatever marinade they use. Each of our bowls had tons of pork and veggies over a big bed of vermicelli noodles. We were guaranteed to not leave hungry.
My family was very impressed with service on top of the food. The staff there was incredibly nice and all smiles which was infectious on my mother who had a great time there as well.
Here’s their menu:
Happy Dining,
Eddy
