Eggroll Express Revisited

While out trying to decide what to eat for dinner, I returned to a restaurant that was a big pleasant surprise for me. Eggroll Express is located in a strip center near 31st street south and Broadway. It’s an area of town that doesn’t have many dining options, so this was hopefully a great addition to a neighborhood short on good local eats.

If you didn’t know, the owners were the ones that started Hunan Cafe that closed a couple of years back on east Pawnee. The menu covers many popular dishes from there. They have an assortment of chicken dishes, lo mein, fried rice, chop suey, and more.

On our most recent visit, we ordered nearly the exact same thing as last time simply because everyone was very happy with what they had the first time. We had some chicken lo mein, chicken fried rice, and beef egg foo young. The only difference this time was we added some pork egg foo young.

Just as we expected, the portion sizes were phenomenal. Everybody had like two meals in one.

I can’t speak highly enough of their egg foo young dishes. I’ve had the beef and now the pork. If you’re unfamiliar with the dish, imagine an omelet made with eggs, bean sprouts, cabbage, mushrooms and other vegetables and stuffed with beef. Then you’re given some fried rice and gravy to mix it all together.

It’s a very hearty dish that’s like Chinese comfort food. It’s heavy but you can’t stop. The meal has a sweet and savoriness to it. If I had to suggest a Must Try Dish, that’s it.

I know 31st and Broadway is a bit of a drive for people. It also doesn’t help that there’s a big influx of quick service Chinese restaurants all over Wichita. But trust me on this, it’s worth the drive. Friendly service, big portion sizes, delicious food, you can’t go wrong here.
