First Look at Caffe Americana

A new coffee shop and bakery has opened inside Towne West Square in the former Orange Julius/Dairy Queen space. It’s called Caffe Americana. The shop is owned by Ryan Goebel who has spent time in the food industry and decided to branch out and start his own business. It opened officially on Friday, August 20 so I wanted to swing by and get a first-hand look at what to expect.

As many of you know, I’m not a coffee connoisseur, but have been branching out more and trying more iced coffees and such. Plus it’s still a win as I’m able to help get the word out on a locally owned business. And not only is it local, Goebel uses many local suppliers.

Caffe Americana bakes all their own pastries. By the time I arrived they still had some muffins and bread available.

I had an iced coffee at the recommendation of the owner and picked up a blueberry muffin, pumpkin bread and banana nut bread. I was asked if I wanted my drink to be a little on the sweeter side which I obliged.

The first sip was excellent, of course, my experience should not be taken as gospel given my limited coffee drinking history. But for what I had, including the pastries, they were delicious. The blueberry muffin was about as perfect as I could ask for.

I was told mall traffic has been picking up lately, especially with some new stores opening inside, so that was a plus to hear. It was nice chatting with Goebel; you could hear a lot of enthusiasm in his voice about his new business so I hope it all goes well for him. Caffe Americana is a one-man operation; he’s doing all the work and I can certainly respect that.

If you’re in the mall on the west side, swing by, grab a drink, show some support and buy local.

Here’s their menu.

Happy Dining,
Eddy
