News just keeps getting worse for the Wichita restaurant community. The latest closing was announced today when DeFazio’s said they were permanently closing effective immediately. This one came as a shocker to many, including myself. I received some messages saying DeFazio’s was going to close earlier today, but I was unable to confirm it myself, as the restaurant is typically closed on Wednesday.

Then this evening, they made it official on their Facebook. Pete Defazio cited issues with staffing and declining health problems and with that the decision was made to retire and close the restaurant.

Established in 1982 by Pietro DeFazio, DeFazio’s Italian Restaurant had become a dining staple in our city. I have so many memories of going in college and well after.

If I knew this was going to happen, I would have dropped by immediately. Seriously, I don’t know what else to say besides they will be missed. While there are some great Italian options, it sucks to lose one of them.
