When it comes to coffee shops in town, Sojourner’s Coffee House just may be the most impactful one in the community. While the space at 7130 W. Maple St. is open to everybody, it’s also a place designed for active duty, military, veterans and their families. One of the owners, Larry King, is a veteran of the United States Air Force and with his wife, Ashley, they wanted to create something that helped military veterans and families integrate and navigate military life with civilian life. After all, it’s an issue the Kings dealt with themselves.

It’s called “Coffee with a purpose”. At it’s core, Sojourner’s Coffee House is a nonprofit organization with a mission to come alongside active duty military, veterans and their families where they are to help them build solid relationships, heal, grow, adapt and thrive.
As a son of a veteran, this is a cause I can certainly get behind and support. I wanted to revisit Sojourner’s to give them a shout out and some love.
Since Sojourner’s is a non-profit, it’s a business ran solely on donations which includes the coffee.
The give back to other organizations in the community like PassageWays and also hosts events and classes for veterans and military to meet, discuss issues, network and help each other out. Here’s the events schedule.
I asked them to surprise me with whatever drink. Soon after, I was handed a strawberry mocha (I forgot the full name of it) that was sweet, but not too sweet; delicious enough that I guzzled it down before I got into my car. I also picked up a pumpkin muffin on my way out.
I firmly back everything they do for those in our community. For more on Sojourner’s Coffee House and their worthwhile mission, visit their website.
Here’s their menu.
