Is the Hotter & Spicier Chili Ramen Express, in fact, hotter and spicier?

Who doesn’t love a cheap bag of ramen noodles? There’s been a ramen shortage of sorts at the grocery stores. I noticed Walmart was hit by the same shortage and started carrying a new brand called Ramen Express by Chef Woo. I was hoping Wichita State started a new brand of ramen by Chef Wu, but that was not the case and I had to settle for a different chef.

Walmart only had one flavor in stock called Hotter & Spicier Chili Ramen. It was slightly more expensive than the regular brand they carry by mere pennies.

I decided, why not give it a try to see how it stands up to the competition, and then purchased four packs.

The directions called for 3 minutes in the microwave. I used my Rapid Ramen Cooker, which is the best product for microwave ramen; it comes HIGHLY recommended. Every Rapid Ramen Cooker comes with two in your choice of red or black!

Now that the sales pitch is over, let’s get back to the ramen. I mixed the seasoning packet to give it that classic brownish brothy color and then dug right in. It was not hotter or spicier by any means. The only adjective I could think of was grosser. There was a sharp chili flavor that was pungent. It kind of overpowered everything.

Walmart typically carries the Maruchan brand of ramen that also has a chili flavor that’s immensely better.

Chef Woo, you let me down.

Happy Dining,
Eddy

  1. Ok so this is your opinion and it’s totally valid but I absolutely loved this ramen. It’s no comparison to Samyang brands of course but for a bargain Walmart brand it is 10 steps above maruchan in my opinion. I loved the peppery flavor and it’s definitely spicier than maruchan
