I didn’t know this until recently, but there’s a local bread subscription service in Wichita. Once a week, you can have homemade bread from PeeWee+Sweet’s Bakehouse delivered to your doorstop.
You know I had to look more into it and, of course, check it out. All the bread at PeeWee+Sweet’s Bakehouse is naturally leavened, meaning no commercial yeast is used. For instance, the bread I received this week was The Country Sourdough Loaf which was made with organic turkey wheat flour, organic dark wheat flour, kosher salt, water and their sourdough starter. The whole process for the recipe was 34-36 hours from start to finish, most of that time being fermentation.
Subscription are between $44-55 a month, depending on the number of weeks in each particular month. Once you place your order, one loaf will be delivered every Tuesday between 10 a.m. and Noon. Deliveries are only made to addresses in the Wichita city limits. Arrangements can also be made for porch pickup in east Wichita.
If you’re interested in placing an order for a local bread subscription, you can head to their website here. For more information, don’t forget to follow PeeWee+Sweet’s Bakehouse on Facebook.
Now to dig in to this sourdough bread….
