I have some very sad news to report. My favorite restaurant in all of Wichita, Lola’s Bistro, has closed as of today. The plan now is for it to be temporary, but given the current state of the industry nobody is certain what the future holds.
The New American restaurant, opened in 2017 at 2146 Collective Lane. They served refined French, Italian, and Asian-inspired dishes. It was a favorite of ours from the very first time we stepped foot inside the restaurant to every date night we spent there for dinner.
After speaking with Michael Abay, he said they just haven’t had the staff to continue running the restaurant. They’ve been running less than half-staffed for almost two years. Over that time, they’ve had to limit reservations and turn away walk-ins because of the staffing issues.
This is a good time to point out that sometimes when you see tables open at a restaurant, that doesn’t mean they have servers to take care of them.
Abay said staying open this long wasn’t possible without his current staff who worked hard to make it work, along with family who came when there was a need for extra hands. Big props to his manager Emily, who I’ve seen there pretty much every time and always gave the best service.
I truly am hoping this is just temporary. Their food is beyond wonderful.
