Anybody else ever drive around town simply to see if a new restaurant or food truck has popped up without any mention of it anywhere online? I do…. a lot, and that’s how I came across Taqueria Las Jicaras. They are located at 2841 S. Hydraulic in front of the former Dancing in Paradise space at the South City Plaza shopping center.

Only open on the weekends, Taqueria Las Jicaras is a family owned and operated food truck. The menu is about as simple as you can get with tacos for $2 unless you went with lengua, then it was $2.50 along with burritos and quesadillas for $6.
I stuck with a couple lengua tacos and then one asada and one al pastor taco. The family of three, running the truck, got them out quickly. Not just for me, but every person who was ordering tacos as well.
The star of the show at Taqueria Las Jicaras was the lengua. It was tender, meaty and really flavorful. Every bite had me wanting more. The al pastor was probably second on my list; slightly sweet and tasty. Unfortunately, the asada didn’t make the cut for me as it was very tough. Those lengua tacos were something else, though. In hindsight, I should have just ordered five lengua tacos and would have been highly satisfied.
It was a nice, surprise stop for a new truck option in town that I’m sure many people have never heard of.
