First Look at The Wing Express

There might be a few food trucks around town I haven’t tried, so I’m hoping to spend my summer completing visits to all of them. One of the first to cross off my list was The Wing Express. As you can guess, the food truck specializes in wings. They will be making appearances at random festivals and rallies around town. Be sure to follow them on Facebook to see where they’ll be at next.

They were out at one of the food truck rallies, and I went with an order of 10 wings and fries for $15. There were six flavors to choose from. Since I was feeling some spice, I went with the mango habanero and Jamaican jerk.

It took maybe 15 minutes for my wings to be finished, and then I was off to the nearest park bench to get my grub on.

I totally forgot to get a picture of my waffle fries, as my daughter decided patience wasn’t a virtue and began digging in.

How about the wings. I had some mixed opinions on it. The sauces were great. While I didn’t get too much of a jerk flavor in the Jamaican jerk, that along with the mango habanero still provided a delicious kick of heat that kept me coming back for more. They were tasty and not overly sauced on the wings.

The wings, however, could have used a bit of improvement. They were meaty, which was a plus, but a little lukewarm in temperature. Keep in mind, I ate them immediately after getting them from the truck. The meat was a bit chewy, but not so much that it ruined my meal. It was a little overcooked. I didn’t let it bother me too much, and went about my business eating every single wing.

As noted earlier, loved the sauce and perhaps the batch of my wings were a mistake. I don’t know. What I do know is, given the sauces alone, I’d be willing to give them another try next time they’re out.
