First look at the new west side Red Robin Gourmet Burgers

Wichita was first introduced to Red Robin Gourmet Burgers in 2004 when the first location opened in the Waterfront development at 9990 E. 13th St. And now, 18 years later, the west side gets their own location. The national burger chain officially opened to the public on Wednesday, and we dropped by to check it out.

One of the biggest differences I noticed between the east and west location was the size of the bar. On top of that, I just loved all the natural light inside the restaurant.

But you don’t go to Red Robin for the natural light… unless we’re talking the beer. Most people come for the bottomless fries. That of course had to be accompanied by a burger and at the recommendation of my server, I went with the Madlove Burger which came with jalapeno relish, avocado, candied bacon and more. The jalapeno relish and avocado was a big selling point for me.

I enjoyed the burger. While I typically prefer thick, juicy burgers, this one wasn’t all that juicy, but still worthwhile. It was certainly thick, and the toppings improved the whole burger. By no means would I put this in my top 10-20 in town, but for a family-friendly environment, I’d return as the burgers are still better than many of the chains the kids like to frequent.

Probably a big selling point at Red Robin on top of the ambiance is the bottomless fries. I made sure to get my fair share of it. Furthermore, highly recommended is the honey mustard. Truth be told, I’m not even a steak fries fan, but Red Robin’s hits the spot for some reason.

Here’s a look at the Scorpion Gourmet Burger a friend ordered.

The service on opening day was phenomenal. It certainly helped that they were overstaffed and what appeared to be corporate employees were watching over everyone. I’ll be interested to see if anything changes after they are gone. But it looks like I’ll be finding out sooner than later, as the kids got whim they are open and want to check it out.

Here’s the menu:
