Judging Pickle Fest 2022
It was the third annual Pickle Fest event at Blood Orchard. The event was part of the southside food truck rally and vendor market that takes place in June every year.
If you’ve never been to Blood Orchard, they are located at 6346 S Broadway and are an orchard that sells and grows such items like peaches, apples, cherries, pumpkins and more. On Saturdays during the warmer weather, you’ll find food trucks. Occasionally, a food competition is mixed in. This month, the food trucks were tasked with coming up with a unique creation using pickles. Now, I LOVE PICKLES, so this event was right up my alley.
Here’s a look at what we had:
It was a LOT of food and so many delicious creations. In the end, the Pickled Reuben and Pickled Ranch Fries from Big B’s Beef were my favorite. But the meal from Face Stuffers was really good and the Pickled Kebab from Smokin Diner was the best presentation. Using pickles as buns was genius, but Big B’s Beef stole the show.
The Final Verdict
The three I mentioned were all in the running, and it required a tie-breaker from our panel of five for Big B’s Beef to be declared the winner.
As usual, it was a ton of fun judging and I’m beyond stuffed sitting here, typing this all out.
These type of food competitions are my favorite, as it gives the owners a chance to show their creativity and put out dishes that wouldn’t regularly be found on their menu.
Be sure to check out the event calendar to see what fun food truck competition will be next at Blood Orchards.
