Something you don’t see much of around Wichita are Indian tacos. If you’ve never had one, Indian tacos are a combination of beans or ground beef, chopped lettuce, sliced tomato, shredded Cheddar cheese, and optional green chile atop plate-sized rounds of crispy fry bread.
At first glance, you may not think it’s much. But after the first bite, you’ll want to come back for more until you’re stuffed. Typically, one is all you need, as it can be a pretty heavy meal.
Occasionally, R Coffee House at 1144 Bitting St. has them on their menu. The best way to see when that happens is to follow their Facebook page. I stopped in when they had them and ordered just one. The Indian tacos are $8 for an all veggie one and $10 for beef and are pretty much the size of a plate.
The funny part was I almost ordered two for the hell of it, but was told to start with one. It was the best advice I received that day. This beast of an Indian taco was enough food to get me through the day. I loved the mix of toppings; it was like a taco salad on a delicious piece of fry bread, which was crispy on the outside and doughy on the inside.
Seriously, head on over to R Coffee House and get yourself one of these when it’s on the menu.
