First Look at Waggin Waffles – The return of bubble waffles to Wichita

Ever since Sweet House closed down at Union Station, Wichita has been without bubble waffles. Make way for Waggin Waffles, who opened at the Old Town Farm & Art Market. The mobile vendor has brought with them the spherical egg-based waffle that is popular all over the world.

Bubble waffles which are also referred to as egg waffles are a spherical egg-based waffle popular in Hong Kong. They consist of an eggy leavened batter cooked between two plates of semi-spherical cells. They are typically served hot and topped with different fruits and flavors.

The owners of Waggin Waffles came across them on a trip, loved them, and decided to go ahead and open a business serving these delicious treats.

If you’ve never had them, you’re in for something special. Last time I had them was down in Mexico, where I’m pretty sure someone was selling them on every corner.

Bubble waffles are usually served hot, and often eaten plain, although they may be served with fruit and flavors such as strawberry, coconut or chocolate. At Waggin Waffles, you can add ice cream, maple syrup, whipped cream, ice cream, peanut butter, banana, chocolate savings and sauce and pecans.

I went with whipped cream, peanut butter and bananas. It sounded like a great idea for breakfast, and it delivered.

I loved breaking off little bubbles from the waffles and eating them plain. Every now and then, I used my fork to grab a bubble, dip it in the whipped cream and peanut butter, stab into a banana, and enjoy the rich, sweet flavors.
