First Look at Tiger Rice Japanese Kitchen

Tiger Rice Japanese Kitchen

If you’re familiar with Mr. Miyagi Japanese Grill, you’ll want to check out the new Tiger Rice Japanese Kitchen. The new restaurant has opened at 1735 W 21st. St. that recently held one of the Uno Mas locations.

The owners are former managers of the Mr. Miyagi Japanese Grill, so they are certainly know a thing or two about the popular rice and noodle dishes Wichitans have been scarfing down over the years.

The menu as Tiger Rice Japanese Kitchen consists of garlic fried rice, yakisoba noodles and udon noodles. Each of the starches can be added with your choice of chicken, beef, shrimp, or veggies; the appetizers include egg roll, crab rangoon, gyoza, or spring rolls.

During our visit, we ordered the garlic fried rice with chicken and the udon noodles with all the meats. We also had the egg rolls, crab rangoon and gyoza.

Truth be told, going into this meal, I was hesitant this was going to be another quick-service Japanese restaurant that didn’t excite us much. But Tiger Rice Japanese Kitchen really hit the spot. The garlic fried rice with chicken was a huge portion size and definitely garlicky; I’m talking intense amounts of garlic for the garlic lovers.

The big winner for me was the udon noodles. I’m always curious why more Japanese restaurants don’t serve udon noodles on their menu; as it’s one of my favorite dishes. I was happy to see it on the menu there and knew instantly that was going to be one of the entrees we went with. They didn’t disappoint, either, as it was delicious.

The appetizers were all good and we devoured those fairly quickly upon their arrival at our table.

All in all, it was a worthwhile visit and one I’m sure we’ll be trying again as the older kids missed out on this and have been wanting to check it out. The service was quick and friendly, which was reminiscent of what I noticed when they managed Mr. Miyagi.
