It’s time to check out another new restaurant that has opened in Wichita, Gorditas Por Fias.
They are located in a familiar building I’ve reviewed many restaurants at 2117 E. Central. Over the years, the space has held Antojitos Salvadoreno, El Pollo Dorado, Restaurant Nicatropical, Jet BBQ, Restaurante Delicias Authentic Mexican Food, Restaurant Playa Del Carmen, El Papa Pollo, and most recently Southern Style Cafe.
2117 E Central Ave, Wichita, KS 67214

Upon walking inside, I noticed the owners of Gorditas Por Fias also owned a restaurant on north Broadway called Tacos Por Fias. That was a good sign, as I’ve had good luck with their food before.
On our visit to Gorditas Por Fias, we went with an asada and al pastor taco along with four gorditas consisting of rojo, verde and de chicharron.
All the food was good. The meats were tender in the tacos; the tortillas didn’t fall apart on me. I definitely enjoyed the gorditas, mainly the chicharron one. This was a much better visit than other gordita restaurants I’ve been to in recent months.
They were very busy, which was a good sign. The place was even busier earlier in the week when I originally tried to stop by.
I say it’s a good sign because let’s address the elephant in the room. The building has had LOTS of turnover through the years. Tacos Porfias also had some changes over the years too, moving buildings and such. It’s been hard to get excited about restaurants in that space because they rarely last a year.
Here’s to hoping, they can be the ones to stay.
