First Look at Gorditas Rodeo

The last two restaurants at 3090 W. 13th St. have been Mexican restaurants, so let’s hope the third time is the charm with the latest opening. Gorditas Rodeo has taken over the former Marina’s Mexican Seafood and Tacos La Catrina space.

The new Gorditas Rodeo was given a bit of a facelift inside with a fresh coat of paint and some changes to the interior.

The menu at Gorditas Rodeo consisted of tortas, burritos, quesabirria, menudo on the weekend, gorditas and tacos.

It’s hard to go to a restaurant with gorditas in their name and NOT order gorditas. So, I went with a couple gorditas with chicharron and a couple buche tacos.

The food came out quickly and soon I was home getting down on some Mexican food.

They made a gordita with a flour tortilla and a corn one. I preferred the corn over the two. Both had a nice firm crispy exterior but a tenderness in each bite. The chicharron was surprisingly spicy. I enjoyed it, but the aftertaste was a bit off. It’s hard to describe but something was off and took away from the gordita. If I were to compare their gorditas to others in town, I don’t think I’d rank it as high.

The buche tacos were much better, though, and something I’d order again in the future if I revisited them.

Gorditas Rodeo has their work cut out for them especially with another Mexican restaurant basically next door to them along with a flood of new ones opening in the next month within miles.

I can’t say there was enough on my first try that stuck out as memorable, but perhaps you may think so if you give them a try.
