The former Calvin’s Hamburger Haven space at 1929 S. Seneca has a new restaurant inside. Taqueria La Autentica has taken over. The Mexican restaurant selling tacos, tortas, burritos and more has been open for about a month.
1929 South Seneca St., Wichita, KS 67213
Open Daily: 6am – 2pm
I dropped by recently and you could tell they were still in the early stages of opening. When I asked for a menu, they didn’t have one. The lady working the counter mentioned a few things on the menu. I did notice a gentleman was eating menudo and believe that’s only available on the weekends.
Since the family wanted tacos, I went ahead and ordered twelve of them. The meats Taqueria La Autentica had to choose from included buche, al pastor, carnitas, lengua and barbacoa. We went with 10 al pastor tacos and a couple lengua.
The tacos maybe took all of 10 minutes and then I was off to take them home.
Opinions on the tacos were split down the middle. Half of us enjoyed them and the other half didn’t. I particularly had no issue with the lengua, they were tender… but slightly too tender on the verge of mushy. The al pastor tacos drew the most criticism. While one of the kids enjoyed them, everyone else didn’t. Particularly because the al pastor was overcooked, and the tacos were fairly greasy compared to others they’ve had.
Overall, mixed opinions from us on the new Taqueria La Autentica.
