Heading to downtown Mount Hope to visit LMNO Pizza

LMNO Pizza

Over the years you may have had their pizza in Wichita at such bars as Barleycorn’s, Lucky’s, Kirby’s, Good Company or Lava & Tonic. It’s called LMNO Pizza and what some people may not know is their pizzas are local and made in Mount Hope, KS.

The wholesale pizza business actually started in the back of Barleycorn’s over a decade ago and expanded to Mount Hope, where the business still runs today.

LMNO Pizza is headquartered in a historic bank building in downtown Mount Hope. That’s where all the magic happens. The pizzas are made from scratch and can be prepared on site or purchased frozen.

While a majority of the business is wholesale, customers can still come in on Friday evenings between 5 and 9 p.m.; the only day of the week they’re open. I’m pretty sure the entire city of Mount Hope came in at one point or another.

By the time I arrived, they had already sold out of pepperoni and cheese pizza. I ended up going with a hot Hogjaw which was their version of an all-meat pizza. The 9-inch pizza was cut into eight slices. At first glance, you may not think it’s enough to fill you up, but it is. There was plenty of meat loaded on each pizza, the dough was firm and offered a nice crisp in each bite. I particularly enjoyed the red sauce, which was sweet but not so much that it overpowered the pizza.

I’ve had many of their frozen pizzas at local bars here in Wichita, but never a fresh one made from scratch on site. It may have been even better.

Knowing I would want more, I picked up five different ones to take home and can’t wait to crank them out in either my oven or smoker. $7 for a frozen pizza was a fantastic price!
