First look at Hot Berries Cafe, Andover’s answer for crepes

Hot Berries Cafe

For whatever reason, sweet crepes have struggled in the Wichita area. I’m not sure why, as I’m a huge fan of them. We’ve seen restaurants and food trucks give it their best shot, but over time, they all close.

The latest business to specialize in crepes has opened in Andover, KS. It’s called Hot Berries Cafe. They are located at 203 W. Central in Andover Square. The little building has held such businesses as Sip ‘N Treats, Snack Shack and Cottonwood Coffee. I’m hoping this latest venture has the winning recipe, as I need more crepes in my life.

Hot Berries Cafe has a drive-thru along with a walk-up window where orders can be placed.

With it being a typical windy day, I opted to stay in the confines of my car. I pulled up into the drive-thru and asked for recommendations. One suggestion I received was The Barn which included Nutella, strawberry, banana topped with whipped cream and Nutella sauce. The owner had me at Nutella.

It took roughly 5-7 minutes for my crepe and this was what I received.

I have to say, it was probably the thickest sweet crepe I’ve ever had. Most of the time, the sweet crepes are fairly light with few toppings. This one was loaded and I wasn’t complaining. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good light, airy crepe, but had zero concern here.

My crepe was stuffed with bananas and strawberries on the inside and loaded on top with even more. Hot Berries Cafe did not hold back here. It came with a side of whipped cream, which I wouldn’t have mind if they just poured it on top instead of putting it in a container.

I pulled over to a parking spot within Andover Square and devoured my crepe.

The crepes were worth the drive across town. I believe the gentleman working that day was the owner, who was very nice and down to earth. Here’s to hoping one, a crepe business can make it and two, any business can make it in that building.
