First Look at Villa Del Sol

Villa Del Sol

Introducing Villa Del Sol. The new restaurant is now open at 2227 N. Arkansas in the space that has previously held such restaurants as La Jerezana, Taqueria El Paisa, Casa Del Charro, and Armando’s. It’s a return of sorts, as the owners of Villa Del Sol used to own the aforementioned La Jerezana.

My lunch at Villa Del Sol started with complimentary chips and salsa. The runny salsa was light in flavor with no heat to it. My preferred salsa option for the chips was drenching it in the medium heat, guacamole salsa.

After browsing through the 6–7 pages of options, I wanted to try something I haven’t had in a while.

That excluded fajitas, tacos, a Mexican seafood dish, burritos, but landed me on a hamburgeusa. I ordered the hamburgeusa Mar y Tierra which was special ground beef, grilled shrimp, cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion and homemade chipotle mayo and served with fries.

The fries were delicious and crispy, there was some sort of garlic seasoning on them that I loved.

As for the burger, it was a little underwhelming. For me, the biggest focal point of a burger should be the actual patty. That should be the star of the issue and it wasn’t the case here. It was one of the thinnest patties I’ve seen around town and didn’t offer much flavor. All I could taste was the chipotle mayo and avocado, which didn’t exactly resonate with my taste buds.

The patty was barely detectable in every bite and there were three pieces of shrimp which didn’t do much to enhance the experience.

Overall, I wasn’t impressed with my meal.

As for the service, that was pretty nonexistent as well. There was one server on hand and I saw him when he took my order and when he delivered my meal. It wasn’t a case of being too busy either because there was only one other table of diners who arrived towards the tail end of my meal.

If I go back, I’ll definitely be trying something seafood related.

Here’s their menu:

Happy Dining,
Eddy
