Ambience is one of the most underrated aspects of any restaurant. I appreciate beautiful fancy restaurants, like getting fancy and dressed up occasionally, but what speaks most to me are the dives. The places I can walk into wearing whatever I want, say whatever comes across my mind, and enjoy a simple dish like a burger.
All that is what I’ve always enjoyed about Timbuktu Bar & Grill.

For over 40 years, Timbuktu has been a part of the Andover family.
The bar and grill has essentially everything you need for a good time. There’s a patio, pool table, arcade games, dartboard, plenty of televisions, excellent music from the jukebox, a full menu of burgers and sandwiches, and beer.
Once you walk inside, you instantly know this is a bar where if the walls could talk, there would be plenty of stories to be told.
During my visit for lunch, I had the Timbuktu Original which was a 1/2 lb of fresh beef from Yoder Meats with American cheese, grilled onions, and pickles. I went with the Curly Q’s as my side and made sure to include an order of jalapeno relish for 50 cents. The jalapeno relish is something everyone has to order even if they aren’t there for food.
Something to keep in mind is it can take a while for a burger, so leave yourself plenty of time.
Everything about the Timbuktu Original was great. From the pillowy soft bun to the crispy curly fries to the burger, it was an outstanding lunch. The half-pound patty made sure I didn’t leave Timbuktu hungry. The burger wasn’t all that juicy or greasy, it reminded me of one you’d get from a backyard outing at someone’s house.
And that jalapeno relish is one of the best condiments you’ll find around the Wichita area. The burger by itself was great, but the addition of the relish took it to new heights.
And to add to the ambience and the food, the servers are some down to earth people that make you feel so welcome.
