First Look at Lito’s, home of the best vegan tacos I’ve ever had

A new restaurant called Lito’s has opened in the former Angry Elephant/Augustino Brewing Co space at 756 N. Tyler Road. Lito’s slogan is “a lito bit of everything for everyone”. Meaning, they have something on the menu for everyone. The restaurant features burgers, tacos, burritos along with a full vegan menu.

Currently, only the restaurant space of Lito’s is being occupied. The taproom side that used to be Augustino’s will eventually open once the liquor license arrives.

While I would typically go with the regular menu, I decided to venture out and order from the vegan side. I ended up on the soy chorizo tacos which were 3 soy meat tacos with potatoes, eggless eggs, shredded cheese, pico and crema. It came with a side of rice and veggies.

Let’s start with the sides. The rice was a bit hard and felt undercooked; that was the only lowlight of the meal for me. Meanwhile, the veggies were outstanding, there was a bit of a char flavor to them that really stuck out that I loved.

But the best part of my day at Lito’s was easily the soy chorizo tacos. The three tacos were enough for a light lunch that didn’t leave me feeling bloated. After each bite, it didn’t even dawn on me, I was eating vegan food. It was flavorful with a slight bit of spice. I could have easily ordered more, as they were the best vegan tacos I’ve ever had…. not that I have had much experience with it. Still, it was tasty enough that I’d consider ordering them again instead of trying something different on the menu.

The service was quick, my food came out in a timely manner and I never had an empty glass at my table. All in all, this was a great first visit.
